grieving

grieving isn't something i've really learned how to do. my grandpa died on january 24, and i still am not sure how to let myself feel the loss of such an important man in my life.  grieving wasn't something we did in my family, and i find it difficult to give myself the grace and freedom to let down and let myself be sad with God. anger i can do...i can easily be angry about things that make me sad, but are so painful that i can't be sad...so i stay angry. im trying to move away from that but it's very confusing. definitely one of those isaiah 42:16 kinda walks...i hope to get the hang of it sooner rather than later...

oh - and i didn't paint the really cool painting above

today's woot shirt

this shirt just screams "awwwwwwww!", as in "aww" when you see a little kitten.  it's so cute and makes me feel sad for the robot and glad that we can as humans have the ability to love.  Buy it at www.shirt.woot.com

Andrew Bird

Sadly, I didn't go see him at the Rialto. This song is off his new album "Noble Beast", and I HIGHLY recommend it. First off, he's so talented. I mean, check out how many instruments he plays!  He whistles, plays violin, guitar, and I think also the mandolin though it's not seen here...and I think he even plays a few more than that. Kinda makes the average musician a little depressed, but well, something to strive for. :) But I love the beat and melody of this song, so I hope you can enjoy listening on this lovely Saturday!

Tucson Folk Festival

I plan on basically camping out downtown all weekend long....how could I not, I ask myself :) If anyone wants to join me while I'm down there, I would love it!  Some of the time I'll be watching bands, but awesome enough, they also have workshops going all day long during both days (insert ecstatic scream here).  I'm excited as I feel God has made folk music to be a big part of my soul that resonates with him...so what perfect timing! So ya, just let me know if you wanna bum at the Folk Fest with me and enjoy some dang good music and cool people :)

i love love love music

I went into The Folk Shop for the first time today.
I've wanted to go for months, maybe even years but never have found time when they were open.  I found a mandolin that i love. :) We'll see...:)  But in the mean time, I'm practicing scales on guitar, learning to play some new songs, and found a better tutorial for my Navajo flute (mine looks exactly like the one above except mine is cedar and doesn't have a feather, but does have the turtle!).  Some comment that it looks like a recorder, but it's so much more!  It makes such a beautiful sound, reminding me of "Legends of the Fall", a very sad movie, or just the rawness of the desert and the West.  I love that about Tucson and living out here, so I'm stoked to learn how to play better.

Who knew???

Recently sitting at the Seneca House while Keith was brewing beer, I came across an album release in a magazine. Steve Martin on the banjo. WHAT??? I was shocked. So I had to investigate...check this out! Rather amazing...

AHHH!!! (singing angel sounds)

Isn't it beautiful???
Part of me is wanting to get a mandolin and take lessons in my time off this summer.
Part of me feels foolish to want to learn to play another instrument when I don't play the first one so well.  However, I so enjoy playing the mandolin and the sound of it, so I think it will always be a desire of mine.
