revival of the punk

whenever i actually need to study for long periods of time and cram, i always end up listening to my old punk/hardcore music.  today's choice is a band i used to very much enjoy...an old christian punk band from ohio called Relient K.  since i'm studying for finals, i thought this song was appropriate...(just listen to the song and don't watch the video because it's really boring)

lovely poem

For A New Beginning
by John O'Donohue
"To Bless the Space Between Us"

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
The beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

do you agree?

A guy i knew from high school took this picture while he was hanging out in Zambia. It touches on so much, but at the core, that education is a right as much as freedom of speech or heath care.  That idea is being debated a lot these days in US legislation as well.
What do you all think?

glorious ruins

Dan Allender talks about how we are glorious ruins: having been made in the image of God - the glorious part, yet fallen and stained by sin - the ruin part.  I like that idea because i feel like it encompasses a way for me to handle satan's condemnation assault that he likes to siege on my soul. I can say "no, i'm not a worthless piece a crap, i'm a daughter of Jesus!" and at the same time "well, you're right. I'm not perfect...I'm broken, and messy, and bleeding, and awful, and angry, and selfish...but that's why I need Jesus".  It helps me stand in my identity as a follower of Jesus...and as such this dead leaf reminded me of that...the death that is in my flesh, but yet the beauty that God brings out through me.
