to the Chiricahuas!

My friend Emily is one those friends who is up for anything - shaving cream slip n' slide on Hippie Hill? Use a blow torch to burn things in the alley? Finding the darkest skies in Southern Arizona to watch the Perseid meteor shower, even if that means a 2-hour-each-way drive after dinner and before lunch? DONE.

We're goin' on an adventure, Charlie!

So we took off after dinner, in the complete dark (which you shouldn't generally do to go camping, but we're more experienced than most).  We drove for several hours, south of Willcox, and headed to the Chiricahua National Monument.  We knew we were close when we almost hit a baby coyote, a jack rabbit, an owl, and several million field mice...LOTS OF ANIMALS (We even saw a deer later when we were walking!)

We quickly set up camp in the dark, and watched 3 hours full of gorgeous meteors streak across the sky. Smoke trails, green fireballs, and the Milky Way...with so many stars you couldn't even imagine!  BEAUTIFUL!  If only I had a camera that could have captured it.  Well worth the gas and lack of sleep :)

Leaving in the morning...

View from the road by the campsite

How I woke up!  This is from INSIDE the tent! I actually wore a sweatshirt and sweatpants to sleep in... ahhhhhhh.....

my gorgeous friend and adventure-seeker!
